Drinking from a cup

My son, who hit 1 year Saturday, will only drink from my breast or from a bottle. I'm having a really hard time getting him to try trainer cups. He can hold them just fine but refuses to drink from them, no matter how much we market it, no matter how hungry/thirsty he is. I've tried putting all kinds of things in there--diluted grape juice, breast milk, formula (which he also consumes). I admit he ends up getting so upset I end up either nursing him or giving him a bottle, so now it's feeling a lot like a power struggle. I've even tried making sure he's had enough to not need liquid urgently before encouraging him to finish things up using a cup. Any advice/suggestions?

Have you tried the Nuby sippy cups? My son wouldn't take even the soft spout cups and someone suggested soft spout ones by Nuby and he's been on a cup successfully since 6 months of age. They're still soft like a bottle, but yet it's a trainer cup. I know they sell them at Target and Walmart. Good Luck! :)

He has 1 Nuby cup and he seems less antagonistic towards it than he does towards the hard-nozzled Avent cups he has, but he still won't really drink from it. Maybe I should try some more models though--he has just those two types.

I might be helpful. I always got this advice when my son wouldn't wean from the bottle (I was so anxious over everything) -- "He won't go off to kindergarten with a pacifier, and more than likely won't be taking a bottle, so try not to rush it". I know it's a lot easier said than done though. I'm sure he'll come around when he's ready. They have those straw ones too, maybe he might like it?

The only cups my son would drink out of at first were the Nuby cups at walmart for around $1.50. I bought a lot of the various ones and that was the one he finally drank out of. Now he loves it
