Imagination Station

Does anyone's baby 'pretend' things?
Developmentally, this is bizarre, and my daughter is weirding me out.

A few months ago, at La Leche League, a little girl had animal crackers.
Apparently, Abigail wanted one, but the girl wasn't sharing.
So, Abby sat down next to her and pretended to eat a cracker.

I thought it was cute.

Now, however, she spends quite a lot of time eating fake food out of anyone's hand.
She'll go up to you, make your hand into a cup, and take a fake bit of food out.
She eats it, she offers it to everyone around her.
It's weird.

She also pretends to drink.
She'll take a container, tip it to her mouth, and go 'Aaaaah' like she's refreshed.

She also pretends to fall out of bed, so we'll rescue her.

These are all cute games, but developmentally not on track.

Am I over-thinking this?

My son does that, too. It makes me laugh. It also makes me think that maybe he's telling me he can handle a proper cup without a lid now, so from time to time I let him try. Messy, but he seems to like it.
I just thought being able to 'pretend' showed there was imagination developing. I'll be interested to read responses to this, to see if anyone knows different.
I'm sure there's nothing to worry about!

I pulled out my old child development books last night and all of them state that this behavior is shown between year 2 and year 3.
Maybe I'll have a little drama queen on my hands. ;)
And you could be right, it could be the development of an imagination.

Oh, good!
It's strange, but funny.

we call it 'picking bird seed'... Elliot picks up imaginary bits of nothing and eats them and offers it up to share. He'll also share his suss with his "guy."
I was as perplexed my this as you are.
